Inspect Electric Variable Valve Timing Actuator

Warning
• A hot engine can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before performing the servicing.
Caution
• Do not disassemble the electric variable valve timing actuator because it is a precision unit.
Note
• Perform the procedure with the electric variable valve timing motor/driver removed. (See ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR/DRIVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL].)

1.Rotate the eccentric shaft of the electric variable valve timing actuator to the left and right to verify that the shaft rotates smoothly.

Eccentric shaft

• If the eccentric shaft does not rotate smoothly, replace the electric variable valve timing actuator. (See ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL])
Note
• Place your finger in the joint groove of the eccentric shaft so that the eccentric shaft can be rotated easily.
• If the eccentric shaft is rotated continuously counterclockwise when viewed from the front, it will stop rotating at the maximum retard position, and if it is rotated continuously clockwise, it will stop rotating at the maximum advance position.
• The eccentric shaft rotates 15.8 times from the maximum retard position to the maximum advance position.
