Inspect Fan Control Module

Note
• The fan control module cannot be removed as a single unit. If the fan control module is replaced, replace the cooling fan component.

1.Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

2.Switch the main power ON (READY on) and warm up the engine.

3.Using the M-MDS, display the PCM PID [FAN_RPM].

4.Using the PCM simulation item [FAN_RPM], gradually increase the [FAN_RPM] value from 0% to the maximum value and visually verify that the cooling fan operation speed changes. (Refer to [SIMULATION INSPECTION [PCM]] in the troubleshooting manual) (Refer to [SIMULATION LIST [PCM]] in the troubleshooting manual)

Note
• To start the cooling fan from the stopped condition, approx. 4 s are needed for start-up preparations before starting the cooling fan.

5.Using the M-MDS, verify that the cooling fan does not operate at engine coolant temperatures less than 106 °C{223 °F} while measuring the value of coolant temperature sensor No.1.

6.Using the M-MDS, verify that the cooling fan operates at an engine coolant temperature of 106 °C{223 °F} or more while measuring the value of coolant temperature sensor No.1.

7.If normal operation cannot be verified in procedures 4, 5 and 6, inspect the input signals of the following part. Replace the cooling fan component if the following part is normal. (See COOLING FAN MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL].)

• Coolant temperature sensor No.1 (See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL].)
