COOLING FAN MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION/INSPECT AND FAN CONTROL MODULE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0]
COOLING FAN MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Warning:
– A hot engine can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before servicing.
implementation steps:
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Open the engine cover.
3. Remove the left wall.
4. Set aside the water-cooled charged air cooler reserve tank.
5. Remove front under cove No.1 and No.2.
6. Remove the following parts as a single unit.
Air hose.
Air cleaner cover.
Air cleaner element.
Air cleaner case.
Fresh-air duct.
COOLING FAN MOTOR INSPECTION
Note:
The cooling fan motor cannot be removed as a single unit. If the cooling fan motor is replaced, replace the cooling fan component.
DTC Inspection:
1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
2. Perform the DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
3. If any DTC related to the cooling fan motor is present, repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
FAN CONTROL MODULE INSPECTION
Note:
The fan control module cannot be removed as a single unit. If the fan control module is replaced, replace the cooling fan component.
1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
2. Start and warn up the engine.
3. Display PID FAN and simulation item FAN using the M-MDS.
4. Using the simulation function, gradually increase the FAN value from 0% to the maximum value and visually verify that the cooling fan operation speed changes.
Note:
To start the cooling fan from the stopped condition, approx. 4 s. are needed for start-up preparations before starting the cooling fan.
5. Using the M-MDS, verify that the cooling fan operates normally while measuring the ECT sensor No.1 value under the following conditions.
Fan control module
Engine coolant temperature detected by ECT sensor No.1 [°C {°F}] | Cooling fan operation |
---|---|
less than 106 {223} | OFF |
106—108 {223—226} | ON |
more than 108 {226} | ON |
6. If normal operation cannot be verified in Steps 4 and 5, inspect the input signals of the following parts. Replace the cooling fan motor if all the following parts are normal.
ECT sensor No.1.
